Description

MaineMesh and DC207 are teaming up for a practical, community-focused evening on the future of resilient communication in Maine.

MaineMesh is a grassroots initiative working to deploy a statewide network of Meshtastic nodes, low-power, long-range, encrypted radios that operate independently of the electrical grid or traditional telecom infrastructure. The project has already made substantial progress across southern Maine, and this session highlights what comes next.

This event combines presentation, demonstration, and hands-on building time. Whether you’re curious about how mesh networks work, interested in contributing hardware to the statewide backbone, or looking to join a technically minded community, you’ll walk away with a concrete understanding of how the system functions and how to participate.

What to Expect

• Project Overview
MaineMesh will present the current state of the network, how nodes communicate, and what’s needed to expand coverage across Maine.

• Hands-On Workshop
Attendees will get guided time with hardware, configuration examples, and the option to experiment with nodes on-site.

• Contribution Pathways
Learn how to deploy your own node, support cluster builds, join mapping projects, or help with outreach as the network grows northward.

• Community Collaboration
DC207 is hosting the space at ThinkTank Coworking and providing pizza from Otto. MaineMesh is bringing the hardware, expertise, and roadmap.

Who Should Attend

  • Technical hobbyists and tinkerers
  • Emergency preparedness and resiliency folks
  • Radio, LoRa, and mesh networking enthusiasts
  • Anyone curious about building a decentralized, encrypted communications layer for Maine

Why It Matters

MaineMesh aims to connect the state using a communication system that keeps working when everything else doesn’t. This is an opportunity to learn, contribute, and be part of a growing network that strengthens Maine’s resilience and technical community.
